When and Why.

A New Adventure with My Dad

In 2007 my father and I left for Southern Germany. We were off searching for places he had been while stationed in Augsburg in 1968. We found his base, it was 3 weeks from being completely torn down. It was amazing timing and we still were able to still see it, if not how we had envisioned it. We retraced steps in Munich and blazed new trails through the Alps, The Romantic Road, Nuremberg and even Prague, CZ. Bavaria was the backdrop through which we enjoyed our time together. Beer was our drink. Once in a lifetime do you get to take such a journey with your father.

Not so fast. In 2012, Dad will retire. To honor that (some would call it an excuse), we will embark on a trip through two countries and two very different wine regions. First, our collective favorite. Rioja, Spain. This is where our interest in wine blossomed and where we continually come back to. It is comfortable. Like a good friend. Second, the region that has baffled us. Bordeaux, France. We are purposely skirting big cities in favor of small villages. We intend to stop more this time. Linger (not in our DNA), take in sights and smells. Take more photos. And yes, I will try to blog. In Spain and France, wine country will be our backdrop and wine will be our drink. Once in a lifetime do you get to take such a journey with your father, twice.
